Te mapa
Bogoroditsk lies in Tula Oblast, south of Moscow, and is known above all for its late-18th-century palace and landscape park, built for Count Aleksey Bobrinsky, the son of Catherine the Great. The palace, designed by the architect Ivan Starov, stands on a rise above a large pond, and it gave the town not only its main landmark but also its plan.
The town was laid out in the late 18th century with streets radiating from the palace, a design that still shows clearly on a map. Several avenues fan out across the town like the spokes of a wheel, crossed by other streets, so the whole settlement seems to point toward the estate at its focus. Few Russian towns of this size show their plan so directly.
The park itself was designed by Andrei Bolotov, a scientist and writer who managed the estate and created one of the first landscape gardens in Russia. A Bogoroditsk map poster brings together the fan of streets, the pond and the park in a single composition, a small town with an unusually deliberate shape.
Streets spread outward from the palace in a fan, one of the clearest examples of an 18th-century planned town in Russia and striking in black and white.
The palace sits on high ground above a broad pond, whose outline adds a large, calm shape of water beside the geometric street network.
The landscape park around the palace, with its winding paths and open lawns, forms a softer counterpoint to the strict lines of the town plan.

Koteā ko Bogoroditsk
Bogoroditsk is a rare example of a town whose plan tells a story at a glance, and the map works as much for lovers of architecture and history as for those who grew up here. It makes a thoughtful, unusual print.
You can set your own title and subtitle, add a date, and edit the coordinates line. Five styles are available; Paper and Sand suit the historic character well. Download HD files in six sizes, or order a printed poster with an optional frame.
