Te mapa
Borodino is in the east of Krasnoyarsk Krai, in the Kansk-Achinsk coal basin. The town was built in the mid-twentieth century to serve the Borodinsky open-pit mine, one of the largest coal mines in Russia. Coal is still central to both the local economy and the map.
The town has the regular layout of a planned Soviet settlement. Straight streets frame large blocks of apartment buildings, with schools and public buildings placed in the middle of the blocks. Nearby, the mine is a completely different kind of shape: a vast area of pits, benches, spoil heaps, haul roads and rail lines. It stands in sharp contrast to the neat residential grid.
A Borodino map poster makes that contrast its main subject. On one side is a clean, measured plan for everyday life. On the other are the abstract geometries of large-scale mining. Around both, taiga and farmland fill the rest of the frame. It is an unusual map, and a very graphic one.

The Borodinsky coal pit occupies a huge area near town. It is traced by haul roads, benches and rail spurs that create striking abstract lines.
Railway lines carry coal away from the mine and cross the landscape in long, gentle curves. They link the town to the wider Siberian network.

Koteā ko Borodino
For miners, their families, and people who grew up in Borodino, this is a truthful portrait of the town and the pit that shaped it. For others, it is a bold industrial composition, far from a typical city map.
You can edit the title, subtitle and coordinates line, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Noir suits the coal-field geometry especially well. Buy the HD files for $9, or order a matte print with an optional wooden frame.
