Te mapa
Bosaso lies on the northern coast of Somalia, facing the Gulf of Aden, and is the main commercial port of the Puntland region. From above, the city is a clear example of a coastal trade town: a fairly regular street grid backs onto the shoreline, the port and its jetty project into the sea, and dry mountains rise to the south, framing the plain on which the city has grown.
The port has long handled livestock exports and imported goods for a wide hinterland, and the city has expanded quickly in recent decades as trade and population grew. On the map, the older blocks near the harbour give way to newer neighbourhoods spreading along the coast and inland, with roads heading south into the mountains toward the interior.
A Bosaso map poster makes the most of this striking setting. The sharp line of the coast, the grid of streets behind it and the empty land beyond give the print a strong, clean structure in black and white. It is a meaningful piece for people from Bosaso and the Somali diaspora, and a graphic reminder of a city built on the sea.
The Gulf of Aden meets the city along a long, even shore, creating a crisp horizontal edge that anchors the whole composition and frames the streets behind it.
The port's pier reaches out into the water from the city front, the single most distinctive shape on the map and the reason the town grew.
Behind the coast, streets are laid out in fairly regular blocks that expand inland and along the shore, thinning out toward the arid plain and hills.
