Te mapa
Brandon is the second-largest city in Manitoba, in the southwest of the province. It sits in the valley of the Assiniboine River, which curves through the city from west to east. On the map, a rectangular prairie street grid spreads on both sides of the valley, while the river's meanders and wooded banks cut an irregular green line through it.
The city is known as the Wheat City, a name tied to the farming region that surrounds it. Brandon University and the Keystone Centre, a major venue for agricultural fairs and events, are among its best-known institutions. The Trans-Canada Highway passes just north of the city, linking it with Winnipeg and Regina.
A Brandon map poster captures the prairie in miniature: a disciplined grid, long straight roads leaving town, and a river that refuses to follow any plan. The valley slopes and floodplain break the regularity, giving the print a clear natural axis within the city's order.
The river winds through the city in wide loops. Its valley and floodplain form an irregular band between the northern and southern parts of town.
Most of Brandon follows a regular grid of streets and avenues, creating an even texture on the poster that reflects its prairie planning.
Straight highways and rural roads leave the city towards the surrounding farms, stretching the grid far into the open prairie beyond the city limits.
