Te mapa
Camarate is a parish in the municipality of Loures, just north of Lisbon and next to Humberto Delgado Airport. The terrain is uneven, and the map shows it: streets twist around hillsides, climb in short steps and end in small squares and courtyards. Dense residential blocks sit close together, with pockets of open ground and old farmland in between.
The area grew fast in the second half of the twentieth century as Lisbon expanded outward, and its street pattern reflects that mix of older village lanes and later housing estates. Camarate is widely known in Portugal for the 1980 plane crash that killed Prime Minister Francisco Sá Carneiro shortly after takeoff from Lisbon, an event that remained the subject of inquiry for decades.
A Camarate map poster places the tight, irregular neighbourhood fabric beside large, simple infrastructure shapes: highway interchanges and the long, straight lines of the airport. That contrast between small hillside streets and the broad geometry of transport gives the print a strong structure and makes it clearly different from central Lisbon.
Local roads bend and climb over uneven ground, forming an irregular web of lanes, stairs and small squares across the parish.
The long runways of Lisbon's airport sit just to the south, drawn as clean straight lines beside the dense residential fabric.
Motorway links around Camarate create wide looping curves on the map, framing the neighbourhood's smaller streets.

Koteā ko Camarate
Camarate is home to many Lisbon families, and for those who grew up on its hills, a detailed street map feels more personal than any view of the capital. It marks the neighbourhood as a place worth remembering in its own right.
