Te mapa
Cañete is in the Arauco province of the Biobío region in southern Chile, between the Nahuelbuta range and the Pacific. The town is built on a regular Spanish colonial grid, with a central plaza and even blocks around it. Rivers and farmland surround the urban area, and Lake Lanalhue lies not far to the south.
The town was founded in 1558 by García Hurtado de Mendoza and named after his father, the Marquis of Cañete. It stands near the site of Fort Tucapel, where the conquistador Pedro de Valdivia was killed in 1553 by Mapuche forces led by Lautaro. Today the Museo Mapuche de Cañete preserves the culture of the region's Mapuche people.
A Cañete map poster shows the orderly colonial grid against the looser lines of roads, rivers and fields around it. The balance between planned blocks and open countryside gives the print a calm structure. The town's place in Chilean and Mapuche history adds depth for anyone with ties to Arauco.

The site of Fort Tucapel, where Pedro de Valdivia died in 1553, lies near the town. It is an important place in the history of the Arauco War.
Rivers cross the surrounding valleys and fields, and roads lead toward the coast and Lake Lanalhue. These give the edges of the map a softer, more open texture.

Koteā ko Cañete
Cañete carries a deep history, both Spanish and Mapuche, and many families in southern Chile have roots here. A map of the town is a simple, respectful way to honour that connection, whether as a gift or as a reminder of home.
