Te mapa
Temuco is the capital of Chile's Araucanía Region. On the map, the city spreads along the north bank of the Cautín River, with a broad grid of blocks across the valley floor. Cerro Ñielol breaks the regular pattern: a wooded hill protected as a natural monument, set almost inside the urban area.
The city was founded in 1881, fairly late, during the Chilean state's occupation of Mapuche territory, and the region remains central to Mapuche life and culture today. Pablo Neruda spent his childhood in Temuco, where his father worked on the railway. The tracks and the old station area are still visible in the plan.
A Temuco map poster captures the tidy grid, the curving river with the neighbouring town of Padre Las Casas on the far bank, and the wooded bulk of Cerro Ñielol pressing into the streets. In black and white, the hill's winding paths and the long river line give the composition both softness and structure.

The river runs along the southern side of the city. Its wide, braided channel and bridges mark the boundary with Padre Las Casas.
Across the flat valley, streets follow a long, regular grid typical of planned Chilean towns, with main avenues running the length of the urban area.
