Te mapa
Carnide is a parish in the north of Lisbon that began as a rural village outside the city and was gradually absorbed as the city grew. The old centre still stands out on a map as a small cluster of narrow, irregular streets and little squares. On every side it is surrounded by the larger blocks, wide avenues and apartment towers of the twentieth century.
Near the parish's edge lies the Largo da Luz, with the sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Luz and the grounds of the Colégio Militar, one of Portugal's oldest schools of its kind. Carnide is served by the blue metro line. Major roads and wide avenues trace strong lines around the parish boundaries.
A Carnide map poster shows two cities at once: the fine grain of the historic village and the broader, more regular pattern of modern Lisbon. Open ground, sports fields and green spaces fill the gaps between them. For residents it is an accurate portrait of their part of the capital, one that general city maps tend to flatten.
The historic centre keeps its irregular lanes and small squares, a dense patch of detail that contrasts sharply with the modern blocks around it.
The square beside the sanctuary of Nossa Senhora da Luz and the Colégio Militar forms a distinct open space surrounded by large institutional grounds.
Wide roads and motorway links run along the edges of the parish, framing the district with strong, sweeping lines on the poster.

Koteā ko Carnide
Lisbon is usually pictured through its riverside and old hills, but many people live in neighbourhoods like Carnide. A map of the parish gives that everyday Lisbon a place of its own, and it suits a first apartment or a family home.
