Te mapa
Castrop-Rauxel was formed in 1926, when the towns of Castrop and Rauxel merged with surrounding communities, and the map still shows it. There is no single centre but several, each with its own cluster of streets. They are linked by roads crossing former mining land between Dortmund and Herne, in the heart of the Ruhr.
The Rhine-Herne Canal and the Emscher cross the north of the town, and the A2, A42 and A45 motorways draw long curves along its edges. Coal mining shaped the area for more than a century. The Hammerkopf tower of the former Erin colliery is still a landmark, now standing among parkland and new businesses.
In the centre, the civic ensemble around Europaplatz adds a distinctly modern block to the plan. Its town hall, event hall and sports hall were designed by the Danish architect Arne Jacobsen. A Castrop-Rauxel map poster captures the town as it is: a network of neighbourhoods, green corridors and infrastructure.
The canal runs through the north of the town in a steady, engineered line, with the Emscher close by. Together they form a long band of water across the whole poster.
Arne Jacobsen's civic buildings around Europaplatz stand out as an orderly group of large forms. They are set among the older, more irregular streets of Castrop.
The A2, A42 and A45 wrap around and through the town with wide curves and interchanges. They give the plan a strong Ruhr character of roads, rails and water.

Koteā ko Castrop-Rauxel
Castrop-Rauxel is a place that people are attached to because it is home, not because it is famous. A map of its districts, canal and former pit sites captures that personal connection for anyone who grew up here or has moved away.
Change the title, subtitle and coordinates line, for instance to name a district such as Ickern or Habinghorst, or to add a year. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download the HD files or order a print, with or without a wooden frame.
