Te mapa
Catamayo lies in the province of Loja in southern Ecuador, in a valley noticeably lower and warmer than the provincial capital just over the mountains. On a map the town spreads across the valley floor, a regular grid of streets bounded by the Catamayo river and the rising Andean slopes beyond.
The surrounding land is dominated by sugar cane, which has long been the valley's main crop, and large cultivated plots fill the lowlands around the urban area. The town's grid gives way to these fields at its edges, while dry hillsides rise on both sides of the valley.
One of the most prominent features on the map is the airport, which serves Loja because the city's own mountainous terrain leaves little room for a runway. Its long straight strip runs alongside the town. A Catamayo map poster captures the valley grid, the river, the fields and that runway in one clean composition.
The runway serving the city of Loja lies at Catamayo, a long, straight strip across the flat valley floor that stands out clearly on the map.
The town centre follows a regular grid of streets and blocks with a central plaza, in the layout typical of Andean towns.
Wide fields of sugar cane surround the town on the valley floor, forming large, open parcels between the river and the hills.

Koteā ko Catamayo
Many travellers to southern Ecuador first arrive through Catamayo, and many families from the valley now live elsewhere. A map of the town can mark a homecoming, a journey or roots in Loja province.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, in Spanish or English, and add a date that matters. Five styles are available. Sand suits the warm valley, and Blueprint highlights the runway and grid.
