Te mapa
Cha-am is a seaside town in Phetchaburi Province on the western shore of the Gulf of Thailand, just north of Hua Hin. On a map its defining feature is the coastline, a long, nearly straight beach. A beach road runs beside it, and hotels, restaurants and houses fill a narrow band behind it. Farther inland the main highway runs parallel to the coast.
The town has long been a weekend escape for people from Bangkok, a few hours' drive away. Between Cha-am and Hua Hin stands Mrigadayavan Palace, a seaside summer residence built for King Rama VI in the 1920s. Its teak pavilions are raised on stilts and linked by long covered walkways.
A Cha-am map poster shows the town's linear form. The shoreline creates a clean edge, the beach road follows it closely, and short streets run inland like the teeth of a comb. The sea to one side leaves a calm open space in the composition.
The long, even coast forms one clean edge of the map, a natural boundary that gives the whole composition its strong horizontal line.
A road runs parallel to the sand with a narrow band of development behind it, the characteristic shape of a Thai seaside town.
Short streets run inland from the beach toward the highway at regular intervals, adding rhythm between the coast and the main road.

Koteā ko Cha-am
For many people Cha-am means weekends by the sea, family trips and slow evenings on the beach road. A map of the town keeps those memories on the wall at home or in a holiday apartment.
