Te mapa
Changloon is a town in the Kubang Pasu district of northern Kedah, close to Malaysia's border with Thailand. On a map it appears as a compact settlement along its main roads, surrounded by the paddy fields that cover much of this part of the state. Scattered hills and forested ridges rise nearby, adding irregular shapes to an otherwise open landscape.
Its position gives the town a steady flow of travellers. The road north leads toward the border crossing at Bukit Kayu Hitam, and Universiti Utara Malaysia at Sintok lies a short distance away, so many students and staff pass through or live here. The mix of highway, town streets and rural roads is easy to read from above.
A Changloon map poster shows the town at its natural scale: a modest grid of streets, the roads heading toward the border and the university, and the large, patterned fields beyond. For former students, families from Kubang Pasu or anyone who has stopped here on the way north, it is an honest picture of a place that sits at a crossroads.
Rice fields surround the town in rectangular plots, giving large parts of the map a fine, regular texture of field lines and tracks.
Main roads lead north toward Bukit Kayu Hitam and the Thai frontier, forming the strongest lines running through and out of town.
Universiti Utara Malaysia at Sintok lies close by, and the route toward its forested campus is part of the town's everyday geography.
