Chenjiaba lies in the northeastern part of Chongqing municipality, a region of steep hills, narrow valleys and rivers that feed into the Yangtze basin. In this terrain, towns rarely have straight grids, and the map of Chenjiaba shows streets that follow the lie of the land.
The built-up area follows the flattest available ground, spreading along valley floors and climbing the lower slopes where possible.
