Te mapa
Chillicothe sits beside the Scioto River in southern Ohio, where the valley widens between wooded hills. Its downtown was laid out as an orderly grid at the end of the eighteenth century. On the map those square blocks stand out sharply against the looping river and the curving roads that climb out of the valley.
The town served as the first capital of Ohio when statehood arrived in 1803, and the Great Seal of Ohio is based on the view of Mount Logan from an estate nearby. Long before that, the Hopewell culture built large geometric earthworks along the Scioto. Several of those sites are now protected within Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, part of a UNESCO World Heritage listing.
A Chillicothe map poster captures these layers: the straight streets of the early capital, the broad bends of the river, the rail lines and highways that cross the floodplain, and the green edges where the hills begin. The result is a clean, balanced composition, dense at the centre and open toward the valley.

The Scioto swings past the town in wide bends. It gives the map a strong natural line and marks the floodplain where the Hopewell earthworks were built.
Wooded ridges, including Mount Logan, frame the valley, while the protected Hopewell sites on the valley floor recall a far older plan for this ground.

Koteā ko Chillicothe
Chillicothe draws people back: former residents, families with long Ross County roots, and readers drawn to the story of Ohio's first capital. The map works as a portrait of the town and of the river valley that shaped it.
