Te mapa
Chimbote sits on Peru's arid northern coast, along the gentle arc of Ferrol Bay. On the map, the curved shoreline of the bay frames the whole city. Rocky headlands and small islands shelter the water, and piers and quays line the beach. Inland, the city stops abruptly at bare desert hills, while the green valley of the Santa River lies to the north.
In the mid-twentieth century Chimbote became one of the world's great fishing ports, built on anchovy and the fishmeal plants that processed it. The growth was rapid, and much of the city grew in districts that spread along the coast. A Chimbote map poster shows that growth pattern: the older core near the bay and newer blocks reaching south toward Nuevo Chimbote.
A large steelworks at the southern end of the bay adds a third element to the picture, alongside the fishing piers and the desert. The Pan-American Highway runs through the city along the coast and links it to Trujillo and Lima.

Piers, quays and industrial plots follow the shoreline and show the city's long dependence on fishing and fishmeal production.
Newer planned districts to the south follow a more regular pattern of streets than the older, organically grown areas near the bay.

Koteā ko Chimbote
Chimbote is a working city, and those who grew up there or left for Lima or abroad often remember the bay more than any single building. A map poster keeps the shape of that coastline and makes a meaningful piece for a family home.
Add a title and subtitle with a family name or a year, and set the coordinates to a street or a neighbourhood. Choose one of five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Sand echoes the desert hills behind the bay.
