Te mapa
Huaraz is the capital of the Ancash region and stands at around 3,000 metres in the Callejón de Huaylas, the long valley of the Río Santa. The white peaks of the Cordillera Blanca rise to the east, and the darker Cordillera Negra lies to the west. The city spreads along the valley floor and up its lower slopes, with the Quilcay river cutting through on its way to the Santa.
The street grid looks newer than the city's age suggests. The 1970 earthquake destroyed most of the old centre, and much of Huaraz was rebuilt on straighter, wider lines. On the map the grid is interrupted by the river channels and by the rising ground at its edges. Outside the grid, streets follow the hillsides in looser curves.
Huaraz is the main base for climbers and trekkers heading into the Cordillera Blanca, whose summits include Huascarán, the highest mountain in Peru. A Huaraz map poster keeps the view on the city itself, but the valley's pull is felt in its shape. The whole plan stretches north to south, the way the river and the mountains run.
The Santa runs along the western edge of the city at the bottom of the Callejón de Huaylas. It sets the north–south direction the whole city follows.
A smaller river cuts across the city from the mountains in the east to meet the Santa. It is a natural dividing line through the rebuilt streets.
After the 1970 earthquake the centre was rebuilt as a fairly regular grid. It gives the core a calmer, more orderly look than most Andean towns on a map.

Koteā ko Huaraz
Many people who hang a Huaraz map first came to climb or trek, and the city is where those trips began and ended. Add a trek name, a summit date or an expedition title to the subtitle and coordinates line. The poster then becomes a record of that journey.
Blueprint works well for the valley setting, and Noir makes the river lines stand out. Classic black and white, Paper and Sand are also available. You can check the layout on a free 900 px watermarked preview first, then download the $9 HD files in six print sizes.
