Te mapa
Chirakkal lies just north of Kannur in northern Kerala, in a landscape of low hills, coconut groves, paddy fields and backwaters. From above, it is not a compact town but a spread of houses and lanes set among trees, with roads winding along the contours and linking scattered neighbourhoods.
The place has a long history as the seat of the Chirakkal royal family, descendants of the Kolathiri rulers of the region. Its large temple tank, the Chirakkal Chira, is one of the most notable water features in the area and appears clearly on the map as a broad rectangle among the greenery.
A Chirakkal map poster shows a settlement shaped by water and vegetation rather than by grids, with the Valapattanam River nearby and the coast a short distance to the west. The region is also associated with Theyyam, the ritual performance tradition of northern Kerala.
A large temple tank forms one of the clearest shapes on the map, a broad body of water linked to the history of the Chirakkal royal family.
Roads curve through groves and low hills, connecting houses spread among the trees rather than forming a dense town centre.
The Valapattanam River and nearby water channels shape the northern and western edges of the area, adding soft curves to the composition.
