Te mapa
Chosica lies in the valley of the Rímac River east of Lima, where the coastal desert begins to climb toward the Andes. Its map is defined by the valley. The town stretches along the river in a long, narrow band, and the Central Highway and the railway to the highlands follow the same course. Steep, dry slopes rise on both sides.
For much of the twentieth century Chosica was a winter retreat for Lima residents, who came for its sunshine while the capital sat under coastal fog. That earned it the nickname the town of the sun. The same valley setting brings risk: the side ravines are prone to huaicos, sudden mud and debris flows during heavy rains.
A Chosica map poster captures this long, linear town. The river runs through the middle, roads and rail line lie alongside it, and neighbourhoods climb short distances up the slopes before the terrain stops them. Side ravines break the edges into sharp, irregular shapes.
The river runs down the valley through the centre of town, the natural spine around which everything on the map is arranged.
The main road to the Andes follows the valley alongside the railway, a pair of parallel lines tracing the long, narrow shape of the town.
Neighbourhoods climb up the side ravines until the steep ground stops them, giving the edges of the map a jagged, branching outline.
