Christiansburg is the seat of Montgomery County, in the New River Valley of southwest Virginia. From above, the older town centre forms a small grid around the courthouse, while newer neighbourhoods and commercial areas spread along main roads toward Interstate 81 and the hills that frame the valley.
The town sits next to Blacksburg, home of Virginia Tech, and the two are connected by major roads and the Huckleberry Trail, a paved path for walking and cycling. Many residents commute between the two, and the map shows how closely their growth is linked.
