Cubal is a town in Angola's Benguela province, set inland from the coast on higher ground where the land rises toward the central plateau. From above, the town has a modest, spread-out shape. A central grid of streets surrounds the older commercial area, and newer neighbourhoods extend outward with looser, less regular patterns.
The Benguela Railway, which runs inland from the port of Lobito, passes through Cubal, and its long straight line is one of the clearest features of the map.
