Te mapa
Dagupan lies on the southern shore of the Lingayen Gulf in Pangasinan, on flat delta land where several rivers wind toward the sea. From above, the city is as much water as land. The Pantal River and its channels curve through the centre, and large areas around the built-up core are divided into rectangular fishponds.
The city is famous for bangus, or milkfish, raised in those ponds, and it celebrates the fish with an annual Bangus Festival. On the map, the fishponds form a striking grid of small rectangles and embankments. The streets of the centre cluster along the riverbanks around the market and the main commercial roads.
Along the coast, Tondaligan Beach and a strip of shoreline face the gulf, and roads lead inland toward the neighbouring towns of Pangasinan. A Dagupan map poster shows a city shaped by tides and fish farming, with a tight urban core surrounded by waterways, ponds and sandy shore.
Rectangular fishponds surround the city on several sides. Their embankments form a fine geometric pattern that nothing else on the map resembles.
The river curves through the city centre toward the gulf, and bridges connect the districts that grew up along its banks.
The northern edge of the city meets the gulf at Tondaligan Beach, a long line of shore that closes the top of the composition.
