Te mapa
Dangkao is a district, or khan, on the southern outskirts of Phnom Penh. It sits at the point where the capital meets the countryside, and the map shows that transition clearly. Near the city, there are newer streets and housing developments. Further out, the pattern loosens into villages, rice fields, ponds and wetland that flood in the rainy season.
The district includes Choeung Ek, the site of a former orchard that became one of the Khmer Rouge killing fields and is now a memorial visited by many people seeking to understand Cambodia's history. On the map, Dangkao is defined by roads leading south from the city and by the scattered water shapes of the low-lying land between them.
A Dangkao map poster shows a city in the process of growing. Denser blocks near the capital break up into a looser pattern of roads, fields and water. In Paper or Sand, the flat, wet landscape takes on a calm, soft appearance that suits the place's quiet outer edge.
Newer streets and housing developments spread outward from Phnom Penh, gradually thinning into a rural pattern on the district's edges.
Low-lying land is covered with rice fields, ponds and seasonal wetland, which appear as scattered irregular shapes between the roads.
Main roads lead south from the capital through the district, forming long lines that tie villages and new neighbourhoods to the city.
