Dharmanagar is the main town of North Tripura district, in the far north of the state and close to the border with Assam. It lies in a lowland valley surrounded by low, wooded hills. On a map, the Juri River is the strongest natural feature, winding past the town and through the paddy fields that fill the flat ground.
The town is compact, with a central market area and streets extending out along the main roads.
