Dhupgāri lies in the Dooars, the flat belt of land in northern West Bengal between the Himalayan foothills and the plains. From above, the town is shaped by a few strong lines. A highway and a railway pass through it, and rivers flowing south from the mountains cross the surrounding countryside in wide, braided channels.
The region is known for its tea gardens, which cover much of the land around the town in large, orderly estates. Dhupgāri serves as a market centre for the area. Its streets gather around the road and railway before thinning out into farms, villages and plantation land.
