Te mapa
Dianshui lies in the south-east of Chongqing municipality, a region of steep limestone hills, deep valleys and narrow terraces. In landscapes like this, flat land is scarce, and the map shows it clearly. The settlement follows a valley floor, with buildings lined up along the main road and stream, while the surrounding slopes remain mostly open.
The street network is simple and linear. One main route runs along the valley, and a few side lanes climb short distances up the hillsides. Farther out, small roads switch back and forth to reach hamlets and terraced fields. Their tight curves make the most intricate patterns on the map.
A Dianshui map poster is a study in how terrain decides everything. There is no grid or ring road, just a thin band of settlement following the lowest ground and a network of winding roads. In the Blueprint or Noir styles, those curving lines look almost calligraphic.
The main road and stream run along the valley floor, and the settlement stretches along them because the hills allow nowhere else to build.
Mountain roads twist in tight curves up the slopes, forming the most detailed and graphic lines on the map.
Large areas of steep, sparsely built land surround the town, giving the print generous empty space around its narrow core.
