Te mapa
Dom Pedrito lies in the Campanha region of Rio Grande do Sul, not far from the border with Uruguay. The surrounding land is the southern pampa, wide rolling grassland used for cattle ranching and, along the rivers, for rice. On the map the town appears as a compact, regular grid set in a very open landscape, with roads running outwards across the plains.
The town's history is closely linked to the gaúcho culture of the region. The area is associated with the Treaty of Ponche Verde, which ended the Ragamuffin War in 1845, and the town still presents itself as a place of peace because of this. Its streets reflect the planned layouts common to towns founded in southern Brazil.
A Dom Pedrito map poster emphasises this sense of space. A tidy block pattern sits at the centre, with long straight roads and the curving lines of rivers and streams extending across the pampa. It is a simple, quiet image that says a lot about life in the far south of Brazil.
The centre is built on a regular grid of blocks and squares, forming a neat rectangle of streets surrounded by open land.
Long, straight roads leave the town in several directions across the grassland, linking it with ranches and neighbouring towns in the Campanha.
Watercourses wind across the plains near the town, and their irregular curves soften the straight lines of the roads and the grid.

Koteā ko Dom Pedrito
For people raised in Dom Pedrito or with family on the ranches around it, a map of the town is a reminder of home and of the pampa. It fits naturally in both a country house and a city flat.
