Te mapa
Dorstfeld is a district in the west of Dortmund, in the heart of the Ruhr area of North Rhine-Westphalia. Like much of the Ruhr, it was transformed by coal mining, and the Dorstfeld colliery shaped the neighbourhood for generations before mining ended. That legacy is still visible on the map, in the layout of workers' housing and in the large spaces industry once occupied.
From above, Dorstfeld is a mix of textures: rows of older colliery houses in regular streets, larger residential blocks, and green areas where former industrial land has been reclaimed. Railway lines cross the district, drawing long curves through the street pattern, and the centre of Dortmund lies a short distance to the east.
A Dorstfeld map poster presents a piece of the Ruhr at neighbourhood scale. In black and white, the repeated colliery streets, the long arcs of the rail lines and the open shapes of parks and former industrial sites form a layered composition. It reflects how this part of Germany has turned from coal towards a greener, residential present.
Streets of older workers' houses, built for mining families, form small regular patterns within the district and give the map a clear historic texture.
Several railway lines cross Dorstfeld in long curves, cutting through the street grid and adding strong linear elements to the poster.
Former industrial land has been turned into parks and green areas, which appear as open shapes that break up the dense residential fabric.
