Te mapa
Dudley stands on a ridge in the Black Country, west of Birmingham, and is often described as the capital of the region. The ruins of Dudley Castle sit on the high ground above the town centre, in the grounds of Dudley Zoo. From here the land falls away in all directions, and the streets follow the slopes.
The town played a large part in the Industrial Revolution, with coal, limestone and iron all worked in the area. That history shows on the map in the canals, including the Dudley Canal Tunnel, which runs under the hill, and in the Black Country Living Museum, which recreates an industrial village beside the water. The rest is a dense web of terraces and small roads.
A Dudley map poster shows a town shaped by its high ground and by the industry that grew around it. The castle hill, the green spaces around it and the tangle of streets and canals below make a detailed, characterful print.
The castle, zoo and wooded slopes create a large green space right next to the town centre, standing out clearly against the densely built streets.
The Dudley Canal and its tunnel under the ridge, part of the Birmingham Canal Navigations, add narrow, winding waterways that link the town to its industrial past.
Terraced houses and small roads fill the valleys and slopes in a close, irregular pattern, typical of towns that grew up around mines and works.
