Dumaguete is the capital of Negros Oriental, on the southeastern coast of Negros island. The city runs along the shoreline, and on a map the coast is its defining edge: a gently curving line with the seafront road beside it and a compact grid of streets behind. Inland, the land rises toward the mountains of southern Negros, so the city has a clear sea side and hill side.
The seafront promenade, Rizal Boulevard, is one of the city's best-known places, a long walkway where people gather in the evenings. Close by is Silliman University, founded in 1901 and one of the oldest American-founded universities in Asia. Its campus takes up a large share of the waterfront area and gives Dumaguete its reputation as a university town.
Across the water lies the island of Siquijor, and boats connect Dumaguete to nearby islands and to Cebu and Bohol. Apo Island, known for diving and marine conservation, is also within reach. A Dumaguete map poster shows the neat grid meeting the sea, a small city laid out between coast and mountain.
The seafront promenade follows the shoreline in a gentle curve, the line where the city's grid ends and the open water of the channel begins.
The large campus near the waterfront adds open grounds and larger building footprints to the centre, reflecting the city's identity as a place of study.
Short piers and the port area reach out into the water, where ferries leave for Siquijor, Cebu and Bohol.

Koteā ko Dumaguete
Many people pass through Dumaguete as students, and many more stop on their way to the islands. A map of the city keeps the boulevard and the campus close, and makes a considered graduation or farewell gift.
Add a personal title and subtitle, such as a graduation year, and adjust the coordinates line. Choose one of five styles: Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, depending on the room and the mood.
