Te mapa
Dumbéa lies just north of Nouméa on Grande Terre, the main island of New Caledonia. It is part of the capital's metropolitan area, but its map is shaped more by landscape than by the city. The Dumbéa river runs down from the mountains through a valley, and settlement fills the lower ground between the hills and the coast.
Over the past two decades, much of the growth has been concentrated in Dumbéa-sur-Mer, a planned district with curving roads, roundabouts and new neighbourhoods built on the slopes near the shore. Older residential areas and rural lots lie inland along the river, becoming sparser as the valley narrows toward the mountains.
The coastline opens onto the lagoon that surrounds much of New Caledonia, part of which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A Dumbéa map poster brings together the three elements that define the commune: the river, the new town and the edge of the sea.
The river winds out of the mountains through a green valley to the coast, the main natural line that organises the whole commune.
A newer planned district of looping roads and residential clusters spreads over the hills near the shore, clearly different from the older areas inland.
Irregular bays and headlands along the western shore meet the wide lagoon, adding a strong, detailed edge to the map.

Koteā ko Dumbéa
Dumbéa is where many families in the Nouméa area now make their homes, and its setting between mountains and lagoon is part of why they choose it. A map poster keeps that landscape in view long after a move.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, in French or English, and choose one of five styles. Buy the $9 digital files and print locally, or order a finished poster from our print partners.
