Dusit is a district in the heart of Bangkok, north of the old city on Rattanakosin Island. King Chulalongkorn developed it around the turn of the twentieth century as a new royal quarter, and its map still reflects that intention. Wide avenues, large walled compounds, generous green spaces and canals set it apart from the dense lanes found elsewhere in the city.
Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue runs toward the Royal Plaza and the domed Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall. The Dusit Palace grounds, Chitralada Palace and Government House occupy large blocks nearby. Wat Benchamabophit, the marble temple, also stands within the district, and its western side reaches the banks of the Chao Phraya River.
A Dusit map poster is defined by scale and order. The broad rectangles of the palace grounds, the straight line of the ceremonial avenue and the ribbons of canals give the design a formality that is rare in Bangkok. It is a striking choice for anyone who knows the city and wants something beyond the usual centre.
The broad ceremonial avenue leads toward the Royal Plaza and the Ananta Samakhom Throne Hall. It is one of the straightest and most deliberate lines on any Bangkok map.
Large royal compounds, including the Dusit Palace grounds and Chitralada Palace, appear as open blocks with few internal streets, giving the map calm, spacious areas.
Klongs cross the district, and its western edge meets the Chao Phraya, so water frames and divides the formal layout in fine, clear lines.

Koteā ko Dusit
Dusit appeals to anyone who has lived or studied in Bangkok, worked near its government offices, or spent time among its temples and avenues. Its formal layout suits a study, office or living room, where the order reads as calm rather than busy.
