Te mapa
Lat Phrao is a district in the north of Bangkok, named after the long road that runs through it. On a map, the district looks like a spine with many ribs. Lat Phrao Road carries the main traffic, and dozens of narrow sois lead off it at close intervals into quiet residential areas.
Between the sois, the pattern breaks into small neighbourhoods of houses, townhouses and compounds. Canals, or khlong, still cross parts of the district. They are remnants of the waterways that once organised much of Bangkok, and they add thin, irregular lines to the plan. Larger roads such as the ring and expressway routes mark its edges.
A Lat Phrao map poster captures a pattern that is typical of Bangkok. It has a strong central road, a fine comb of side streets and water threaded between them. In black and white, the density of the sois becomes a rich texture, and the main road runs clearly through it.
The main artery crosses the district as a long, strong line. Almost every other street connects back to it, so it forms the backbone of the map.
Narrow side lanes branch off the main road at regular intervals. Together they make a comb-like pattern that fills most of the district.
Old canals run between the neighbourhoods as thin, winding lines. They are a reminder of the waterways that structured Bangkok before the roads did.
