Te mapa
Edosaki lies on the southern shore of Lake Kasumigaura in Ibaraki Prefecture, the second-largest lake in Japan. It was once an independent town and has been part of the city of Inashiki since 2005. The old centre stands on slightly higher ground, looking out over lowland that slopes down to the water's edge.
From above, the contrast is striking. There is a small, irregular cluster of old streets on the rise, and then wide, flat fields laid out in rectangles all the way to the lake. The shoreline is a long line, and the channels that drain the fields cross the plain with engineered straightness.
The area is known for Edosaki pumpkins, a regional brand grown in the surrounding fields. An Edosaki map poster shows the town between its farmland and the lake, and the lake shore adds a strong edge that gives the composition its structure.

The historic centre sits on a low rise above the plain. Its winding streets contrast with the geometric fields below.
Rectangular plots and straight drainage channels fill the lowland. The pattern of agricultural land creates a quiet, repeating texture.
