Te mapa
El Bolsón lies in the southwest of Río Negro province, in a valley of the Patagonian Andes close to the border with Chubut. The name means the pouch, which suits its setting: the town fills a flat valley floor enclosed by mountains, with Cerro Piltriquitrón rising steeply on the east. Its street grid spreads along the Quemquemtreu River and fades into farms and forest.
From the 1970s, El Bolsón became known as a refuge for people seeking an alternative life, and that reputation has lasted. Its craft fair is one of the best known in Patagonia, and in 1984 the town declared itself a non-nuclear zone. The valley is also known for growing hops and soft fruit.
An El Bolsón map poster captures a clear contrast between the neat grid of the town and the steep, empty mountain slopes around it. In black and white, the river and the roads into the valley draw a quiet frame.
The town's grid occupies the flat bottom of the valley, a rectangle of streets bounded by the rising slopes on either side.
The river runs through the valley close to the town, a winding line that contrasts with the regular street layout.
Cerro Piltriquitrón and the surrounding ridges leave wide unbuilt areas on the map, where only a few roads and trails climb into the slopes.

The poster is for people who fell for the valley on a trip through Patagonia, and for those who moved here to build a different life. It keeps the town, the river and the mountains together in one frame.
