Te mapa
El Grullo lies in the Autlán–El Grullo valley of southern Jalisco, a broad agricultural basin between mountain ranges. Like many Mexican towns, it is laid out on a regular grid of blocks around a central plaza. From above, this neat street pattern stands out against the farmland that surrounds it on every side.
The valley is known for sugarcane. Around El Grullo, irrigation channels and farm roads cut the fields into a patchwork of long rectangles. The Ayuquila River flows through the valley, and to the south the forested slopes of the Sierra de Manantlán, a biosphere reserve, mark the edge of the plain. Autlán de Navarro, the largest town in the valley, is close by.
An El Grullo map poster shows a clear relationship between town and farmland: a compact orthogonal centre, straight roads leading out, and the geometric pattern of irrigated cane running to the edges of the frame. For people from the valley who have moved to Guadalajara or north across the border, it is a direct line back home.

Irrigated sugarcane covers much of the valley floor. Canals and farm tracks divide it into long rectangular plots that give the map its geometric outer texture.
South of the valley the land rises into the Sierra de Manantlán, a protected biosphere reserve whose slopes form the southern horizon of this part of Jalisco.

Koteā ko El Grullo
People hang El Grullo on the wall for the plaza they grew up around, the valley they return to for the holidays, or the family land still farmed there. The map is simple and orderly, and it reads clearly from across a room.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates in Spanish or English, and choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Download six print sizes as PNG and PDF files for $9, or order a matte poster with an optional wooden frame.
