Te mapa
El Obeid is the capital of North Kordofan in central Sudan, on a wide, flat plain of semi-arid savanna. From above, the town is a broad, low spread of blocks and streets with no coastline or major river to shape it. Its structure comes instead from the roads and the railway leading in from different directions.
The centre is the densest part, with markets and older streets. Around it, residential districts spread out in large, loosely regular blocks, many made up of walled compounds, before fading into sandy tracks and open ground. On the map, it all reads as a soft-edged shape against empty country.
El Obeid has long been a trading centre for the region and is especially known as one of the world's main markets for gum arabic. It is also the terminus of a rail line from the Nile valley. An El Obeid map poster captures a town defined by its roads and its open horizon.
The densest streets gather around the central markets, creating the tightest and most detailed part of an otherwise open town plan.
Residential districts are made up of large blocks divided into walled plots, which gives the outer town a distinctive, even texture.
Routes toward the Nile valley and the rest of Kordofan run out across the plain, forming the main lines that organise the map.

Koteā ko El Obeid
For Sudanese families at home and abroad, El Obeid is a place of strong connections, and a map of its streets can hold those memories quietly. Its open, even layout also makes a restful, minimal print.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line can all be personalised with a family name, a neighbourhood or a date. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
