Te mapa
El Shorouk is one of the new urban communities built in the desert east of Cairo, along the road towards Suez. Unlike the old city, it was planned from the start, and the map shows it: a sequence of numbered districts separated by broad avenues, each with its own pattern of curving streets, closes and villa plots.
The city was designed to relieve pressure on central Cairo, and it has grown into a residential area favoured by families looking for space. It is also home to the British University in Egypt, whose campus is one of the larger single sites on the map, and to a number of schools and private compounds.
An El Shorouk map poster shows planning at its most legible. The avenues form a clear framework, the neighbourhoods fill it with loops and cul-de-sacs, and the edge of the desert is never far away. In line work the result looks almost like a designed pattern, which in a sense it is.
The city is divided into neighbourhoods by wide main roads, and each district reads on the map as a separate cell with its own internal street layout.
Within the districts, streets loop and branch into closes around villas and apartment blocks, giving the poster a soft, organic texture.
The British University in Egypt occupies a large site within the city, visible as an open block of buildings and grounds amid the housing.

Koteā ko El Shorouk
Many families moved to El Shorouk to build a new life with more space and quiet, and a map of their district marks that choice. It also makes a good gift for BUE graduates remembering their years on campus.
Add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, for example a family name and the year you moved in. The poster is available in Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand.
