Te mapa
Emmeloord sits at the centre of the Noordoostpolder, land that was pumped dry from the former Zuiderzee in the 1940s. You can see this straight away on a map. There are no winding medieval lanes, only a deliberate plan. Streets radiate from the middle and are held together by ring roads. Outside the town the countryside breaks into long rectangular plots divided by ditches, dikes and ruler-straight roads.
The heart of that plan is the Poldertoren, a tall water tower with a carillon that stands at the town's midpoint and gave the planners a fixed point to design around. The name Emmeloord was borrowed from an old settlement on the former island of Schokland, a few kilometres away. It links the new town to the water it replaced.
An Emmeloord map poster captures an unusual kind of geometry, where almost every line was drawn on purpose. The residential quarters fan out in orderly blocks, green strips follow the canals, and the regional roads lead out toward Urk, Lemmer and the wider polder. In black and white the result reads like an architect's diagram of how a town can be built from nothing.
The water tower marks the middle of town. The surrounding streets and squares are arranged around it, so the whole plan seems to turn on a single point.
Beyond the built-up area the land is divided into long rectangular farm plots, separated by drainage ditches and straight roads running across the reclaimed land.
Waterways and park strips thread through the residential districts. They soften the formal layout and draw fine lines between the denser blocks of housing.

Koteā ko Emmeloord
People who grew up on the polder, or who moved there for work, often find that this map explains the place better than a photograph does. The radial plan and flat field pattern are recognisable at a glance. A custom title or date can mark a birth, a first home or a family history.
The poster comes in five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. A $9 digital download includes six print sizes as 300 DPI PNG and print-ready PDF files. Printed posters on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame, ship from partners in more than 30 countries.
