Te mapa
Emporia lies in east-central Kansas, near where the Neosho and Cottonwood rivers meet. The town grew up between the two. On a map the streets form a neat grid of numbered and named blocks, bounded by the rivers' wooded bends and crossed by rail lines. The Kansas Turnpike and I-35 skirt the edge of town, and to the west the ground opens into the Flint Hills.
Emporia State University fills a large block of the grid with its campus. The town is also linked to William Allen White, the Emporia Gazette editor whose editorials drew national attention. Emporia is also known as the place where the first Veterans Day was held in 1953, after local residents pushed to broaden the old Armistice Day.
An Emporia map poster shows the contrast between the orderly Kansas grid and the looser lines of water and prairie around it. In monochrome, the campus stands out as a quieter patch of paths, the rail corridors cut through at an angle, and the two rivers frame the town on either side.
The Neosho and the Cottonwood meet near the town. Their curving, tree-lined courses bend around the southern and eastern edges of the grid and soften the straight streets.
Emporia State University sits within the street grid. Its buildings and walkways read as a distinct, finer-grained block among the regular residential streets.
The Kansas Turnpike and I-35 sweep around the town with long curved interchanges. They mark where the compact grid ends and the open Flint Hills country begins.

Koteā ko Emporia
Emporia means something specific to its students, alumni and the families who have lived along its streets for generations. A map of the town is a plain way to keep that connection in view, whether it hangs in a dorm room or a family kitchen.
You can personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates, for example with a graduation year. Choose Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Get the HD files for $9, or order a printed poster on matte paper, with an optional wooden frame.
