Narrow peninsula
The town occupies a slender strip of land with water on two sides, so its outline on the map is unusually sharp and easy to recognise.

Te mapa
Ende lies on the southern coast of Flores in East Nusa Tenggara, facing the Savu Sea. Its setting is dramatic even on a flat map: the town fills a low neck of land with water on both sides, and the cone of Mount Iya rises at the tip of the peninsula to the south. Streets run between the two shores, and the harbour sits on the sheltered water.
The town is known across Indonesia as the place where Sukarno lived in exile in the 1930s, and where, by his own account, he reflected on the ideas that later became Pancasila. His former house is preserved. Inland, the regency includes Kelimutu, the volcano whose crater lakes change colour and draw visitors from around the world.
An Ende map poster shows a town hemmed in by sea and mountain, with a compact street network squeezed onto the land between them. It is a distinctive piece for anyone from Flores, for travellers who passed through on the way to Kelimutu, and for people drawn to places shaped so clearly by their geography.
The town occupies a slender strip of land with water on two sides, so its outline on the map is unusually sharp and easy to recognise.
The volcano at the southern end of the peninsula closes off the town with a rounded mass of open ground, a strong anchor for the composition.
Piers and harbour works along the shore mark Ende's role as a port for Flores, giving the coastline a series of precise, angular details.

Koteā ko Ende
For people from Ende and the rest of Flores, a map of the town is instantly recognisable: the volcano, the sea, the tight streets. It works just as well for travellers who want a more personal souvenir of eastern Indonesia than a photograph.
Choose a title and subtitle, perhaps a date or a line about the journey, and edit the coordinates. Sand suits the volcanic coast well, and Classic, Noir, Paper and Blueprint are also available, as $9 HD files or printed posters shipped from a partner.
