Te mapa
Erkrath lies on the eastern edge of Düsseldorf, where the Rhine plain starts to rise into the Bergisches Land hills. On a map it reads as several distinct parts rather than one town: Alt-Erkrath along the Düssel river, the larger planned district of Hochdahl up on the higher ground to the east, and Unterfeldhaus toward the city boundary.
Between them runs the Neandertal, the narrow wooded valley of the Düssel. In 1856 quarry workers found fossil bones in a cave there that gave Neanderthal man its name. The find site lies partly within Erkrath's boundary. On the poster the valley shows as a strip of open space and bending river cutting through the street network.
The railway between Erkrath and Hochdahl climbs one of the steepest gradients on any mainline in Europe. It was opened in 1841, and trains were originally hauled up with rope assistance. An Erkrath map poster places all of this in one frame: river valley, climbing tracks, and residential districts spread across two levels of land.

A straight railway line climbs sharply from Erkrath up to Hochdahl. Built in 1841, it is one of Europe's steepest mainline gradients and draws a clear diagonal on the poster.
The large district on the plateau is laid out in curving residential streets and cul-de-sacs, clearly different from the older, river-oriented layout of Alt-Erkrath below.

Koteā ko Erkrath
Erkrath is a place people live in by choice, close to Düsseldorf but surrounded by green. A map of it suits someone who moved there, grew up in Hochdahl, or walks the Neandertal on weekends.
You can change the title and subtitle, perhaps to name a district or mark the year you moved in, and edit the coordinates line. Choose Classic black and white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download or order a printed poster with an optional wooden frame.
