Te mapa
Eskilstuna lies in Södermanland, on the river Eskilstunaån that flows from Lake Hjälmaren north toward Lake Mälaren. The river runs through the centre in a series of bends and falls, and the city grew around it. Streets form a fairly regular grid on either bank, with parks and green corridors following the water.
The city has a long industrial history in metalworking. The Rademacher forges, built in the seventeenth century, still stand by the river as a preserved row of workshops, and later factories made Eskilstuna a centre for steel and engineering. Nearby Torshälla, part of the municipality, sits further down the river toward Mälaren.
A Eskilstuna map poster follows the river as its spine: the grid on both banks, the bridges, the islands and the green edges. Wider framings bring in the lake shores and the forests around the town.
The river winds through the centre with islands, weirs and bridges, dividing the city and giving the map a strong, flowing line.
A preserved row of seventeenth-century forge buildings stands by the river, marking the start of the city's long metalworking tradition.
Parks and walking paths follow the water through town, forming green strips that appear as open space along the river banks.
