Te mapa
Espinal lies in the department of Tolima in central Colombia, on the hot, flat plain of the upper Magdalena valley. The Magdalena River runs to the east of the town, and the land around it is among the most productive in the region, which has earned Espinal the reputation of being one of Colombia's leading rice-growing centres.
The town has a regular Spanish colonial grid of blocks around a central square, with streets running in straight lines to the edges of the urban area. Beyond them, the plain is divided into irrigated fields and crossed by canals, while the Coello River and other tributaries approach from the west on their way to the Magdalena.
An Espinal map poster shows a town defined by order and water. The neat grid, the broad river nearby and the geometric pattern of the rice fields fit together in a way that is easy to read and satisfying to look at. Espinal is also known for Tolima's culinary traditions, especially lechona and tamales.
Straight streets and square blocks spread out from the central plaza, giving the town a clear, regular structure that reads well at any poster size.
Colombia's principal river flows past on the east side, adding a wide, winding line that frames the grid and connects the town to the rest of the valley.
Irrigated fields and canals surround the urban area, forming a precise, patchwork pattern that extends the geometry of the streets into the countryside.
