Te mapa
Fairhope lies on the eastern shore of Mobile Bay in Baldwin County, Alabama. Its map is shaped by the water. The town sits on a bluff above the bay, and its streets lead down to the shoreline, where a municipal pier extends far out into the water. A park runs along the waterfront, and the shoreline continues north and south in gentle curves.
Fairhope was founded in 1894 as a single-tax colony, an experimental community based on the ideas of economist Henry George. The Fairhope Single Tax Corporation still owns land in the town. Its downtown is compact and walkable, known for its flower plantings, small shops and brick sidewalks.
Mobile Bay is known for the jubilee, a rare natural event on summer nights when fish, crabs and shrimp crowd into the shallows near shore. A Fairhope map poster captures the town's relationship with the bay: a small grid of streets, a green waterfront and a long pier reaching out over the water.

A compact grid of streets forms the town's centre, with short blocks laid out close to the bay and easy to read on paper.
