Te mapa
Baton Rouge stands on a bluff along the east bank of the Mississippi, and from above the river dominates the western edge of the map, broad and gently curving. The downtown grid sits close to the water, with the State Capitol at its northern end. From there the city spreads east in a mix of grids and suburban curves, crossed by interstate highways.
The Louisiana State Capitol, completed in the 1930s under Huey Long, is the tallest state capitol in the United States, and its grounds form a clear open shape by the river. South of downtown, the campus of Louisiana State University, with its quadrangles and University Lake, creates a distinctive area of green and water on the map.
The city's name comes from the French for red stick, recalling a marker early explorers noted on the bluff. A Baton Rouge map poster shows how the Mississippi, the capitol district and the university lakes shape a city that has long been both a port and a seat of government.
The river forms the western boundary of the city with a wide, sweeping curve, and the Interstate 10 bridge crosses it just south of downtown in a long straight line.
The tall Louisiana State Capitol stands on landscaped grounds at the northern edge of downtown, an open space that stands out clearly within the surrounding streets.
South of the centre, the Louisiana State University campus and the adjacent University Lake and City Park Lake form a soft, watery area among the regular street blocks.

Koteā ko Baton Rouge
Baton Rouge is a city of game days, state politics and river views. A map poster is a fitting keepsake for LSU graduates, Louisianans away from home, or anyone who remembers its bluffs and lakes.
Personalise the title, subtitle and coordinates line, perhaps with a class year, and choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Order the digital HD files for $9 or a printed poster on matte paper.
