Te mapa
Pasadena, Texas, lies east of Houston on the flat coastal plain near Galveston Bay. Its northern edge is defined by the Houston Ship Channel, lined with docks, tank farms and refineries that show up on the map as large geometric shapes. South of the industrial belt, the city opens into broad residential grids with long arterial roads.
The city is known for its role in the Texas petrochemical industry and for its place in popular culture: Gilley's, the honky-tonk featured in the 1980 film Urban Cowboy, was located here. Nearby is the San Jacinto battleground, where Texas won its independence in 1836, and to the south lie the wetlands and bayous around Armand Bayou.
A Pasadena map poster reveals two sides of the city. The ship channel and industrial sites form a hard edge in the north, while the southern neighbourhoods spread out in quiet, regular streets. In black and white, the channel's clean line and the bayous' curves balance the grid.
The deep-water channel runs along the city's northern border. Its long, straight line and the industrial docks beside it anchor the whole map.
South of the industrial zone, wide residential grids spread across flat ground, crossed by long arterial roads running toward Houston and the bay.
Slow, winding bayous cross the southern part of the area, including Armand Bayou, adding natural curves to a very geometric landscape.

Koteā ko Pasadena
Pasadena appeals to people who grew up in east Harris County, who have worked in the plants along the channel or who remember the Urban Cowboy era. The map's contrast of industry and neighbourhoods is unusual.
