Te mapa
College Station takes its name from its origin as a railway stop created for the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Texas, now Texas A&M University. On the map the campus is clearly the centre. Its quads, buildings, sports fields and research facilities cover a large share of the city's footprint, and the rest of the town has grown around it on flat to gently rolling prairie.
Streets spread out in a loose grid broken by curving suburban subdivisions. Major routes such as Texas Avenue and the Earl Rudder Freeway run roughly north to south. To the north the city merges with Bryan into a single urban area. A College Station map poster shows how thoroughly a university can shape the layout of a whole city.
Landmarks on and beside the campus include Kyle Field, one of the largest stadiums in college football, and the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum. In black and white, the dense campus core, ringed by athletic complexes and residential neighbourhoods, forms a clear figure at the centre of an otherwise open Texas landscape.
A vast grid of quads, academic buildings and green spaces dominates the map and forms the city's practical and symbolic centre.
The stadium stands out as a large oval block beside the campus core, a shape familiar to generations of Aggie students and fans.
The city runs seamlessly into Bryan to the north, and main avenues link the two into one continuous urban area.
