Te mapa
Jackson lies on the west bank of the Pearl River in central Mississippi. On the map, the river winds along the eastern edge of the city through a wooded floodplain, and the compact downtown grid sits on higher ground nearby. Interstates 55 and 20 cross near the centre, and neighbourhoods spread in every direction.
As the state capital, Jackson is home to the Mississippi State Capitol and several universities, including Jackson State. The city played a central role in the civil rights movement, and that history is documented at the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum. North of the city, the Ross Barnett Reservoir widens the Pearl into a large lake.
A Jackson map poster combines the order of a planned capital with the looser patterns of Southern suburbs. The downtown grid, the long interstate lines and the meandering river make a clear structure. Framed more widely, the reservoir becomes a large, calm shape at the top of the map.
The river winds along the east side of the city through a broad, wooded floodplain, giving the map an organic edge against the streets.
The historic centre around the Capitol follows a regular grid of streets, the densest and most ordered part of the city.
North of the city, the dammed Pearl widens into a long reservoir whose shoreline shapes the northern suburbs.

Koteā ko Jackson
Jackson speaks to people who grew up here, studied at its universities or connect with its civil rights history. The mix of river, grid and highways makes a map that is both structured and personal.
