Te mapa
Little Rock takes its name from a small rock outcrop on the south bank of the Arkansas River. French explorers called it la petite roche and used it as a landmark on the way upstream. On a map the river is still the main feature. It crosses the frame from the northwest, with downtown on one side and North Little Rock facing it on the other.
Downtown is a tight, regular grid that runs back from the water, and a series of bridges links it to the north shore. Some carry traffic, and others, like the converted Junction Bridge, are for people on foot. Farther west the streets start to curve around the wooded hills. Interstates 30, 40, 430 and 630 form a rough loop around the city.
A Little Rock map poster shows how those layers fit together: the river, the downtown blocks, the bridges and the looser neighbourhoods on higher ground. The city also stands for a turning point in civil rights history. In 1957 nine Black students integrated Central High School, and the school is now a national historic site.
The downtown bridges line up close together across the Arkansas River. Past them, the Clinton Presidential Center sits on the south bank, marking the eastern end of the waterfront.
The numbered and named streets of downtown form a compact, even grid that stands out against the curving roads of the western hills.
Upstream, the Big Dam Bridge crosses the river on top of a lock and dam. It is one of the longest bridges in the country built for pedestrians and cyclists, and it forms part of the river trail loop.

Koteā ko Little Rock
People hang this map because they went to school in Little Rock, worked near the State Capitol or walked the river trail on weekend mornings. It shows a city that grew along a river crossing and spread into the hills, and the design is simple enough to sit calmly in any room.
You can add your own title, subtitle and coordinates line, whether that is a neighbourhood, a wedding date or the year you moved. Choose from five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Pick the one that best suits the room it will hang in.
