Te mapa
Flint grew along the Flint River in the Michigan lowlands. It was known first as a lumber town, then as a centre for carriages and then cars. General Motors was founded here in 1908. The city's nickname, Vehicle City, is still spelled out on the arches over Saginaw Street downtown.
The map shows a broad grid of residential streets, the river winding through the middle, and I-69, I-75 and I-475 forming a rough ring. Large, now mostly empty plots where the auto plants once stood are still visible as open areas. The famous 1936–37 sit-down strike took place in those factories.
A Flint map poster tells that story quietly, through lines rather than words. It shows the downtown on the river, the long straight avenues heading outward, the freeways looping around, and the gaps where industry used to be. In black and white, it is an honest portrait of an American industrial city and of the people who stayed.
The river curves through the centre of the city, past downtown and the old industrial areas, and is the main natural feature on the map.
The main downtown street runs north to south under the Vehicle City arches, a straight axis that anchors the historic centre.
I-69, I-75 and I-475 surround and cross the city, their wide curves framing the street grid on the poster.
